Happy New Year from Prague!

Hello guys, happy 2018! I decided to keep up with my tradition of welcoming the New Year in a new place; although my city of choice this time wasn’t exactly new for me. I had actually spent New Year’s Eve in Prague 20 years ago with my family…how crazy is that!? From that first visit, I fell in love with this enchanting city and proclaimed it my favorite in Europe. Narrow cobble-stone streets with beautiful and colorful building façades on each side, marionette stores and Christmas markets, street performers playing classical music on the bridge… how can a 9-year-old not think this city is straight out of a fairy tale? It was a dream!

For this trip I was a little nervous that my enchantment with the city would be broken, as I would now see it through adult eyes. But I was also super excited to explore Prague as an adult, with no limits to what I could discover… In this post I’ll share some of my favorite moments, spots, and meals from my trip. Prague is a dream city for the senses. The beautiful architecture, the delicious food and beer, the sound of live music on Charles Bridge, the smell of mulled wine and chimney desserts, and the warmth of the city on a cold New Year’s Eve night at the Old Town plaza…yeah, this is still my favorite…

View from my room into another wall of the hotel. The Savic hotel turned out to be quite comfortable, had great service and the room was cozy. Breakfast was included which was a plus!
Beef and potato goulash soup from the U Dominikana restaurant at the Savic hotel. This is a traditional Czech dish and it was really good.

This popular Czech dessert is called Chimney and can be found on almost every corner of Old Town Prague. Mine was filled with strawberries and vanilla ice cream but can be filled with chocolate, caramel, whipped cream…you name it.
Loved being on the Karluv  Most, or Charles Bridge, where the views are incredible but the experience is also great. You can usually spot several artists and musicians performing for the crowd.

And another beautiful view of the bridge at sunset.
Had the most delicious snack at one of the stands of a Christmas market in fromt of the Prague Castle. This traditional Czech food consisted of potato dumplings mixed with different ingredients, such as ham, spinach, cabbage, bacon and sausage.
Cool-looking blacksmith working his craft in front of his stand at the Christmas market in front of the Prague Castle.

Loved the elegant and magnificent look of this church in the Old Plaza. I don’t have a good (not blurry) photo of the astronomical clock but this plaza is where I welcomed the year. It was full of people from all over the world, there was a huge Christmas tree in the middle of the plaza and some of the stands from the Christmas markets were still open selling mulled wine to keep everyone warm and happy.
Had a delicious dinner at this Michelin-star restaurant across the Charles Bridge. Kampa Park is the name of this romantic spot overlooking the bridge and it’s a must!
I also had time to party during my trip. I had heard there was a really cool club, Karlovy Lazne, with five floors, each with a different ambiance and music genre. I had a really good time that night and my feet were killing me the next day from dancing so much!
There are random sculptures all around Prague and I read in most blogs before my trip that a must-do activity is to actually try to find them all. I didn’t have time to go on this adventure but I did stumble upon this one of Franz Kafka, a famous writer born in Prague.

Have you been to Prague? What did you like the most? What is your favorite city in Europe? Join the club and comment below! I want to know it all!!!! Also, I’m planning on doing another post about Prague but if you have any specific questions you would like me to address on that post, let me know.
